Hi fellas. Anyone know of any dealers selling the Abel Super 6 or 7 with any discounts, that would ship to the UK? Looked around, but seems like everyone sells at list. Maybe they have to? Or maybe they don't need to, as the Abels are easy sellers? I' d be interested in good used too.
If any Reel-Timers have similar for sale, I'd be happy to hear about them through a PM. Would also consider BG with Super spool(s). Would possibly consider a Super 5.
Anyone out there actually used the Abel Arm? Is it just an expensive gimmick, or actually a useful addition? I can see how it might work, in theory, but wonder if it makes line control more difficult, when reeling in. Cheers.

Hi Pesca Try ebay there are both an abel super 6 & 7 for sale. although it usa only I've found that if you email them they might ship to the uk.
alternatively if you have a friend or relative in the states get the reel shipped to them. Becarful of H.M.S. Customs if you get the reel get the sender to mark the parcel gift to avoid duty.

Hi Pesca...
Peanut's advice is spot on: Most US stores sell Abel reels
at Abel's specified prices.... and if a store gets caught cutting
prices, then that store is usually discontinued as an 'Abel'
store.... helps keep prices up for Steve and the gang.
The supers are just great, tho they do have cork drags that
need some annual attention/eventual replacement. But they're
silky smooth and large enough to stop a train.
I use the Super 12 with the arm, and us it for tarpon, tuna and sharks.
The arm helps move the center of gravity forward, and I find balances
the rod better. It also lowers the center of gravity (relative to the
longitudinal axis of the rod), and causes the rods (T&T 12, Loomis
Mega 10/11, Cape Fear 12) to twist in my hand during casting.
A seperate note: I ordered the Super 12, the arm and the special
'tuti-fruiti' etching/paint scheme.... I was REALLY ****ed when I found
out that not only was the anodizing extra for the arm itself, but
the drag knob wasn't anodized and I had to pay extra for that, too.
Abel offers a very superior product in their reels (I don't own any
of their other stuff <e.g. pliers, cigar cutters, etc>). You pay
an exorbitant price for 'em. Some people think its worth the
money, others don't. I will say the after-sales support is
perhaps the best in the industry.
Hope this helps.....

Thanks peanuts and uncle4. Will chase those Supers up for sure. Still unsure about the Abel Arm though. Sounds like you've mixed feelings about the arm, uncle4. Do you think that it causes the rods to twist in your hand during casting because the weight distribution has changed with the arm? It's a difficult one isn't it? Do you find any problem with reeling in, as I've heard as a complaint from others?
Know where you're coming from regarding the drag knob not being anodised in with the total price! Everthing (reel foot, Abel Arm, inner drag plate, or drag knob) are all extra for the camo. Pretty good news about the gold and platinum finishes being classed as standard though. Have to admit that I don't mind paying top dollar for quality items, and I see Abel as being just that. Have a camo Super 10, another on the way, and use the No. 4 pliers and Abel blade. Have a tentative eye on a vise too, but can't relly see how I can better my Dyna-King Barracuda. You pays your money, as they say.
I understand those who say that such items don't necessarily catch more fish, and that's fair comment. I do, however, get great pleasure from fishing with tackle that I can appreciate for it's quality and engineering, and as this normally means that they cost more bucks, then so be it.
If you fish with gear that you enjoy, and have faith in, then I feel that this goes some way toward your success on the water. Being confident and positive sure helps a lot. Cheers!
