Hooked up with DougieV and JimW. The 2 die hard regulars I fish with on a regular basis. We headed out to one of our favorite mid summer spots .With lots of deep water and strong tides its becoming a favorite spot of ours during these dog days of summer. We knew it was going to be strictly a night bite so we planned our trip accordingly.Arriving at the spot 2 hours before sunset. As soon as we got there we spooked a bunch of fish right on top.Dougie was the first to score with a 30 inch fish.We paddled down to a spot that we had never fished but is known to be a great spot just as the sun was going down.Fished that area a bit into the dark catching a mess of nice 30-35 inch fish.Doug decided to paddle out to the other side of the rip. What a rip it was.Getting tossed and turned by the tidal currents and the ocean swell mixed I was squeezing my cheeks
Day time its pretty easy to see whats coming at ya and plan your moves. But in the total darkness on a new moon night its a little un nerving to say the least. Not to mention it was our first time out into this rip ever.So Doug is a head of JimW and I.As we catch up to him he yells at us he is hooked up.Well he is paddling his but off not to get swept back into the rip with his rod doubled over.Jim and I were just having a hard time trying to get out of this rip and Dougie is towing a hard fighting fish.He is toooo much.Well he made it out to land a 30 inch Bluefish.Well done Doug we were starting to think we were going to have to tow ya out of there. We fished around the outside of the rip till it started to go slack then made our way back thru it in much safer conditions. It was a decent night / morning of fish with about 40 fish between the 3 of us.JimW boke off a real nice fish 1 st thing in the Am.We had a good bunch of fish in the 35-41 inch range and only a few schoolies. Most of which were caught in the morning. All the fish were caught on eels or tubes.I didnt even bring a single plug with me.Fog rolled in thick just as we got back to the launch spot .We ended up losing about 6 hrs of in the dark fishing which could have run our numbers up much higher and maybe got us into the mid 40 inch range. But catching a quick cat nap before the morning session was nice on a all nighter.I wasnt too spent when I arrived home Sunday afternoon making the Mrs. a little bit happier.
It was another great night on the water with my 2 best yak fishin buds
