I missed my kayak last night.

Well, I got my first skunkin of the season last night.
Out in my Dad's boat.
It was the first time night fishing with my Dad in his boat.
Trying to put him and my brother in law into a striper.
Was not meant to be.

We were going to try an island which I have done well at from kayak at night.
He approaches the island shining a spotlight looking for lobster traps.
He also wants to keep the engine running and the running lights on all the time. Also let's not get close to the rocks for fear of hitting the engine.

At that point, I cracked a beer and accepted my skunking.
Once your used to the stealth of a kayak at night and "no light" policy, a boat trip like this seems like a circus.
More of a social occasion.

It was great to be out there with Dad and Karl, but it just ain't like being on the kayak. If you know what I mean. :brow

Its tough trying to fish a kayak spot out of a boat.I know JimW has been having a hard time going out with one of his buddies.I have turned down quite a few boat invites to fish out of the yak instead.

I can imagine now having fished from a Yak, I was more used to fish from a boat and you have more to worry about, if you run into lobster trap lines it wont harm you in a kayak but you get a boat prom tangled in a bit of a swell and it can get funny - if its not your boat and you are not on it.
I think you do get closer to the fish in a yak, less noise.
By the way thanks for the headlamp it has come in handy in early morning outing.
Let me know when the fandamly thing are done and we can get some fishing done.
How was RI?

Same here guys. Lobster bouys? No problems here on the yak. I had one outing on the boat with a fellow who just dropped big money on a new center console. He had big expectations for big stripe bass. He tells me when I was on his boat, "you are the 10th person I have brought in the last 3 weeks and if you cant get find fish I will get rid of you too." So I did my best. I brought him to an area where dogfish was plentiful. :brow

Gman- I was out on the fauns early am this morning. Nothing holding around great faun. But on the bar was bass up too 34". Paddled over to the harbor entrance and found blitzing in the rips. Mostly schoolies on top but fish finder showed big fish on the rip side and deep. If I can I will launch again Sunday at 4am.
