I test cast 5 rods today at Saltwater edge- TFO Prof 10 wt, TFO TiCr 10 wt., G. Loomis Cross Current 10 wt., Sage Xi2 10 wt., and the Scott Sts 10 wt. Great service at Salt Water Edge. Anyways, the Xi2 was the best casting. 80 to 90' casts were fairly easy. However, it was $200 too much. You can really feel the power in this rod. The G. Loomis was also a great casting rod. 70-80' casts were easy. It was a fast action rod that was very soft. I was not very impressed by the Scott. Iseems like it could really lift some fish, but it just did not suit my style. I cast about 65' with this rod. It had a very beefy butt. The TiCr was a relatively nice rod. 75' was my max. It, like the Scott, had a beefy butt. The Proffessional would make a great beginners rod. I was hitting 70' with this rod. It was slightly softer than the other rods. I ended up buying the G. Loomis. I cast it off some docks on Ninigret Pond this afternoon. the wind came from just about every direction, so the rod got a good workout. I can't wait for the albies, than till april for blackfin tuna in sanibel --127-3-
The mach reel is the most expensive piece of crap that i have ever owned. the drag has yet to warp in mine, but the part that goes into the reel seat has curled downward. It is not much, but enough to make you angry. Time to get my money back and have a friend craft me a reel :brow

Was that the GLX Cross Current, or the regular Cross Current. I think there is a difference, but correct me if I am mistaken.
The GLX and the GLX CC are different rods, but not by much. The GLX has always been their top rod. It's a bit faster and lighter than the CC, but not by much. The cost difference is huge. The GLX also has the reflex guides. I think this was a big mistake for Loomis. Those guides are butt ugly.

Strongly agree on the Mach reel.....I would not want to get anywhere near sand with that reel....exposed roller area will grind like an old farm truck.....
I am stuck on Ross reels....easy to clean and bullet-proof....... :-%

Get a look at the Nautilus reels by Old Florida. I can't say enough good things about them.... I've got two in service on my skiff (along with reels by three other manufacturers) and they're my favorites. Although my anglers are never on the sand with them, the completely sealed drag system is almost bullet-proof.
