View Full Version : Snook flies
My son who is in the Coast Guard, stationed in St. Pete's and Tampa, asked me to tie him some snook flies.
I need some suggestions on what works.
He said the snook were only a few feet from the waters edge the other night, but was unable to get them to take his flies.

There are many great fly patterns for the " fishing in the aquarium " and anything white on a size # 2 hook around 2" , unless you have a great pinfish fly to tie up will help catch the snook, but it's closed season at this time so catch & release is the only option. Have a flyfishing buddy that used to be in the Coast Guard and he got into the beach snook after I got him set up in flyfishing for helping me rig a boat! There have been articles in the flyfishing magazines on various flys for southwest Florida in the past few months that were preferred by guides. Try those or just tie up some bendbacks or deceivers. Alot of the flies for this coast are area specific and they do work very welll !!!
