Deer Island 08/01 am Report

Got out there at 4am nothing till round 6am, one 22inch on Clouser.
Lost a big fish around 7h30 in deep water with same Chartruese clouser, finally got keeper just after 9Am, it was in shallow water north of the bar, friend of mine was wading the same area as far as you could get out on Fauns bar and got three all on clousers including one keeper.
Left at 10 was windy and getting hard work on fly.

Fished a Winthrop spot near there on saturday morning--waders only, no yak. Striper bite was good, mostly small fish. Picked up a couple legal fish at sunrise--one was 38" but long and skinny, probably only 16#. That fish was part of my plan not to catch any heavy fish this year. Anyone can catch the big ones, but it takes a good fisherman to feel the little bites. A few blues were around chopping my plastics in half, but I didn't catch any. I ran into FLY who also got into some action and had the tattered fly to prove it!
