I fished winthrop Saturday morning (see report in Kayakninja's thread if interested) and just wasn't that into it and quit a little early. Once I parked my kayak on the sandy areas of five sisters I decided to play with the fly rod and do some sight fishing for fun. Only did it about 10 mintues and didn't see anything but it got me thinking. Any of you winthrop guys ever wade that area in the spring and see fish? That area has a lot of bars for good vantage points and sand so it would seem fishable.

While I'm at it, what about the flats off Snake Island?

I see the main problem being water clarity. One area to check out would be nahant. There are some decent flats over there and the water usually stays clear when winthrop is cloudy.

Early spring and the water isn't so cloudy. That and hit the right tide and that water can be gin clear..ok maybe not gin clear, but clear enough to sight fish. I don;t spend much time trying to do it on the ocean side, but inside where you mentioned can be decent. Bottom color has a lot to do with it. The lighter color bottom helps on the inside.
