My son, now 22, has really a passion for fly fishing stripers. We own a boat, deal with wind, and primarily fish Bays no deeper than 15' (Duxbury).

Do any readers have experience with Orvis top end products? I would like to get him a father-son once-in-a-lifetime outfit. He loves the T3/Battenkill V - LA.

Also, can anyone explain the difference in casting ability between a TipFlex and MidFlex rod?

Comments appreciated from veterans. I know there are less expensive products, but I do care about quality and know that price and quality are not always equal.

Will take e-mail at tclprin@AOL.com.

Thank you all for ressponding.

I have a Tridant TLS 9 WT TIP flex rod. Great rod and am very happy I purchased the tip rather than Mid-Flex. The Tip Flex has more of a stiffer tip and it suits a person with a strong cast. The mid-flex seamed a little too soft for my stye. In wind or when casting larger flies, this rod seems to out perform others I tried.

When I purchased this rod. The sales guy who is a friend of mine and avid salt water surf fly fisherman suggested the tip over the mid-flex based on his years of experiance. Advise that I took and am happy I did.

Good luck with your purchase
