Just curious, has anyone seen a rod that is designed to be used either as a one-handed or a two-handed rod. I'm thinking of something like a 10' or slightly longer (but no longer than 10'6") 10 to 12 weight with a slightly oversized/extended foregrip and either and extended fighting butt that can double as the grip for the lower hand or two removable extended butts (one a traditional fighting butt and the other a grip for the second hand). The rod would still have to be fairly easy to cast with one hand as well as two.

Why am I thinking of such a rod? Well I am most comfortable casting a one-handed rod but I have a chronic shoulder problem that acts up periodically (particularly when I've been casting for a couple of hours and stop for a break. The shoulder tightens up and gets real tender). When it does, I believe I would be better off casting two-handed overhead style taking some of the pressure off the shoulder.

I'm somewhat of a gearhead but I do not recall ever seeing such a rod. Have any of you? Just curious.

Bob Meiser is your man-He builds beautiful fly rods somewheres out in Oregon. He has a line of switch rods that are tailor-made for your situation. You can contact him by googling: RB Meiser fly rods.

You may also want to look at CND rods. they primarily produce spey rods but I know they are developing a "beach fisher special" that will be about 11 feet in length and in the 7 thru 9 weight range. You may want to send them an email for more details.

Most reel seat caps/ends will come out fairly easy leaving a hollow reel seat. Why not just put an extension into one of your current rods?
