I launched around 1pm to catch a bit of the incoming and work the outgoing. I paddled over to my favorite spot and was into small bass about 12" some even stealing worms on the tube. The water temp was 67 degrees. I thought for sure the blues were around. I went into deeper water around 15' and switched to leadcore line. As soon as I dropped it the rod bent back. Nice! It took a nice run and headed out of the cove and I got a nice ride. I pulled it up and it measured around 44". I have been dying for some fillets as well as my neighbor and I decided to keep. I landed on the small beach and a fellow there offered to take some pics and watch my yak while I went to the Bobs Bait to have it weighed and then put on ice. I made it to Bobs and it weighed out at 32lbs. He took a pic and put it on the wall. Put the fish home in the fridge and headed back to the beach with a couple of Ice Coffees for the gentlman who watched my ride. He turned out to be from my old neighborhood in Chelsea. Small world. I thanked him and headed back out. I got into smaller fish again and went back to the tube with leadcore line. Never would I have thought that the monsters were still around. It was two hours later with the tide heading out quick. I was back in 12' of water now in the same area. I put the Santini Tube out on in red on braid and trolled around for another 1/2 hour with only smaller fish around. Then I got whacked! Again alot of line went out and then it calmed down and I was in tow now. What seemed like forever I was towed all the way out of the cove. It made a turn back to me and I thought I lost it. The line went limp and then it came alive again with another run. Again it took line and I was towed back into the cove. I finally got it up and my heart hit my throat. DAM! I said. I got it to the yak and hoisted it up and the yak leaned over. Thank god for a stable yak! I knew that this was my best fish ever. I had to keep it. I paddled back to the beach and now no one was there. I asked a passerby to take a picture for me and she obliged. I was so happy and tired and could hardly lift for the photo. I loaded up the gear and headed back to Bobs Bait. I came in and said can we take another pic. He laughed. Again?,he said. We went back to my truck and hoisted it out. Thats bigger, he said. We measured it out at 46.6" and weighed in at 40 1/4lbs. What a day and I will have alot of happy neighbors with the care packages I will be giving out. I am having pics devloped as I write this to get it on. I hope to have them online tonight. Tight lines my friends!
