I'll be out in Chatham 8/23-8/26 with a chance to get out flyfishing for one day. Normally I go out with my kayak but I'll be solo and on foot. Any recommendations or anyone interested in getting together for a day? I'm an experienced flyrodder though I'll be like a fish out of water without my kayak. I could actually use some help or ideas; I've never taken the ferry out to fish and could use some direction. Thanks in advance!!!

Craig,

On foot you have many choices. I will say Chatham can be kind of slow this time of year from shore. I think getting out early (sunrise) or very later (like I should be very asleep kind of late) is your best bet.

A good early AM spot is Morris Island:
Drive to the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge parking lot on Morris Island Road. Follow the well marked trail down the steps to the beach. Fish the entire beach from right infront of the steps to the mouth of Stage Harbor to the far right.

Via the OMH or Rip Ryder Ferry:
Go to South Beach on the 0800 ferries. Walk directly to the ocean side and fish the beach in either direction. Low tide is good here as it puts you close to the drop-offs (be careful, strong currents possible)

Another good time for the ferries is late in the afternoon. I frequently take the OMH ferry around 3:00 to South Beach, and tell them I will be walking back. Try the bathtub on a droping tide late in the day.

Late Night:
Ocean side of South Beach!!!!

Grouse- Your welcome to borrow my kayak during your stay. I live 10 minutes from Chatham.. Its a tandem Dagger 13'. Very stable, 65#, easy to paddle by yourself. I'm not using it now due to recent surgery.

PM me if you would like to use it..

I met Ray at the June Monomoy Shoot-out.........he really knows the area. Take Ray's advice. You can go to the bank with it. You will catch fish, lotsa fish.
