I wash mine once in a while. After using I try to remember to leave upside down and dry. If its not the smell the athletes foot that you can get will makes you wash em.

The key is getting a pair the you can fully turn inside out to dry after each use. Barring that I just squirt a bit of dish liquid in them and wear, gets feet and boots clean. Note, if you can't dry them properly, do not rinse them with fresh water, the saltwater is alot less hospitable for most bacteria.

I rinse mine pretty thoroughly after every use. Doing it right away makes a big difference than waiting until the next day or two. Hang then to dry in a dry place like a basement. Or hang them in the sun until dry. Though my neighbors think I'm strange, I hose mine down, then hang then off the porch in the sun (along with my booties) to dry. Works great.

Call the company that makes the waders and see what they say. I bet they hear this question daily.

Ps. I can't make DI this week. I'm in SF until Friday. Looks like the second half of the week will be very nice!!!

DON'T GET RID OF THE SMELL!!! Its badddddddddd luck.

When it starts to burn your feet and disolve the skin, then maybe a little soap.
Dive shops will probably tell you not to use regular soap on neoprene. They may even try to sell you a neoprene safe detergent. If you use boots a few times a season I would agree, but if you use them as often as most kayakers use them, using soap is not a big deal. You will be replacing them in a year or less anyway, rocks are far worse on boots than a little soap can be. I use regular old irish spring here and there.

Like Ray said, rinsing with fresh water is key. Salt water stinks when it sits...
Drying them is big, but if you are going to throw them back in the car for tomorrow to use again and don;t have time to let them sit, definately rinse with fresh water.
