After two incredibly successful yak outings in Maine (at least 30 fish each time out on Slug-gos in very skinny water) I'm aching to get back on the water so I'm eyeing two locations I may want to try on the incoming Boston high tide: Dorchester Bay and the mouth of the Neponset launching from the ramp just south of the gas tank on Morrissey Blvd. and fishing the inside at Winthrop launching from the town park that butts up against the water facing the Logan runways and paddling up and in towards Belle Isle.

Any tips, suggestions, warnings, recent reports welcome.

I'm in a Pungo 120 with a half skirt, no electronics or fancy stuff, just my trusty Loomis 7'6" and Scotty rod holder.

I go to Deer Island and have not realy had much experiance at other places.
You can go to the public parking lot on Deer Island and launch from either side the habor side or Winthrop side depending on the water and where you want to fish.
Work your way up to the tip and Fauns bar fishing has been pretty good.
I heard that the fishing towards and around Snake Island is good too but have not bothered going there.
PS just remember the open season on Pungos start this weekend... :brow (#$107)

One word of warning: when you are out there catching fish after fish, beware of sneak attacks by flyfishermen in SOTs with deck guns. Pay the extra money and get the bullet proof pungo.

All the spots that you mentioned are good. Paddle around and you will find more. I find that the electronics are very helpful for locating dropoffs and bumpy bottom. I have a fishfinder on my pungo.

Don't forget about all the oceanfront property that you have access to!

Sounds like you are using the 6" sluggo. If you find yourself catching too many fish, you may want to switch to the 9" sluggo or the 10" fin-s. The little ones still hit, but enough miss so you can catch some bigger ones.

Ah yes, I am aware of the full line of Lunker City baits thanks to Phil Klug (harbor guide formerly of the late Stoddard's). Plus the little ones are murder if you can find a worm hatch.

Belle isle...personally, unless you are going up into the marsh on a higher tide, I wouldn't bother heading in the channel. I would stay around Snake island and work the shoreline to the South (towards DI). Better structure, cleaner water, more bait.

If you do go way inside, the channel past the runways is great on a high tide. Low tide forces you to fish the channel itself, it can be a pain with boats and wind unless you are trolling. On a higher tide I would stay to the Winthrop side and fish up on the flat off the channel. Water will average 3-5ft deep and is a great area for poppers. The water will clear up some with a north wind and an outgoing tide.
