...Have you ever had success using a red pork trailer instead of the worm?
Have you ever had luck with out any worm or trailer?
My local bait shops are opening later and closing earlier so I am having trouble getting worms.
Thanks for your help.

Well I'm not expert...but no. I tried a strawberry twizzler once but not takers-they must not like the carbs. You might want to stock up the day before and put them in fridge..on the other hand I had some large worms I bought thursday pm, threw them in trunk and forgot about them until Saturday and they were still kickin.

You might try some smelly jelly, or make your own with some old worms and some vasaline. Or try some berkley power bait sand worms. Nothing will beat the real thing though. Well if it does be sure to let us know.

I have had success with the Berkley "stinky" fake sand worms. And equally good luck with just a tube. Go figure.

In the past, I've tested side by side, almost everything. Worm vs. porkrind, stinky plastic sandworm subsitutes, herring chunks, etc. I've never hooked up on anything but real worms. However, I have tried trolling fin-s, sluggos, etc (alone). and done very well versus the tube-n-worm.

Thanks for all of the feedback !
I guess like anything else with fishing it is a matter of putting in the time and trying new strategies.

I have had some nice fish on chunk or small live eels, filleted herring and Powerworms in Motor oil color. The commercial guys down the cape use a tube that is sealed at the top with 1/2- 3/4 oz egg weight or bullet weight and a little piece of sponge at the bottom. Fill it with bunker oil and add something on it like pork rind, squid strip, fillet of a herring or mackeral, grub anything with action. Obviously the tubes like Santinis with the hole cut out of it will not be practical to hold bunker oil.
Welcome to the darkside! --123-3
