You are killing me. With the wind I decided, nah I will sleep in this morning while I have the chance cause when it dies down I will be out before and after work.
Then on my way to work I thought, hmmmm, probably some good surf, I should have gone surfing this morning. Never did actualy get a look at the surf, but judging by the water color in Bell isle (a bright shade of aqua vs pea green) the surf was definately up high.
Tomorrow should be even better, swell will still be there, but the winds will have subsided some so the cho won't be as confused. North shore will be sweet tomorrow up on the north facing sand beaches in Gloucester I bet.

Looks like it is time for Leon and Slappy to take another shot at the FB. We were out in the last post-hurricane storm, but ran like girls. Not quite as manly as Riley and Ruge. We went around the light and paddled as fast as we could for the parking lot. Of course we did manage to get a few fish too...

I just want to know when it is going to be safe for wimps again. Tired of strong winds and chop! Let me fish!

I watched surfers today by the water tower. Man they were brave.

8 seconds is great for going in, however with the kayak, turning to go back out in the white wash (which at that wind speed also has its own set of waves to negotiate), now thats another story.
Add that 25 solid and 31 mph gust, thats some fun padling. Even the harbor is surfable in that wind. Low tide over Little faun, or the rock (South end) on greater faun will be sick. 30 is enough to blow a narrow sik right over without bracing, especially if caught on the top of a swell. But its wetsuit weather and paddling out to the fauns in a wesuit is a bear.
You want a ride....get to the Bulls. Now there's a break.
Anyone want to paddle to halfway rock?? Last time we had 10 fters they were going over halfway (thats almost 15 ft+ in height at low tide), great break there....14ft is even better. I wish the clocks were turned back already so I would have some time to get out tonight!
Unfortunately its low tide in the am for bean town in the next couple days, best time to kayak surf is high under the tower because the bowl is flooded. You get a good break over the bar, that dumps you in deeper water. So you get a giant break, then softens up, allows you to ride the wave, then turn in the deep water where its more calm and punch back out. Low tide just dumps you in shallow rocks and the wave period is huge, you get no rest in between waves, its all work and takes longer to get out past the surf zone.
BUT...
At anything over 6 or 7 feet, the gap between, or the surf off the ends of the 5 sisters will be good. And that will dump you in protected calmer water, you can always duck the surf if tired behind the rocks. Thats an option, but higher profile because the harbormasters can see you there and will probably drag you out of the water because they think you are at risk in anything over the ripples generated when a kid throws a rock in the water. Waves like that usually draw news crews all day (they have a tough time figureing out high tide is the better photo op, so they sit there all day and wait for a rock to fly up and over the wall into a car winshield).
I will have pics tomorrow.
When this dies down to 5 footers and no wind (in 1 or 2 days) surfing will be ideal for a kayak no matter what your ability cause you could find areas with a gentile break and areas with a solid curl. South coast will be better (warmer water, nice soft sand). Wear a helmet.

The CCB Flats would be great. Brewster extends out almost a mile I think.... what a ride. When these waves space out a little more, even better. Who wants to break something --127-3- (#$119) :)
