bauer fly reel question

i just got a bauer LM5 from a friend without papers and im not sure how to switch from right to left retrieve. i push the side button but the spool wont pop off

You have to press the button in and turn the knob counterclockwise. The knob comes off and then the spool will slide of the spindle.

I should add that changing from right to left and vice versa is a whole 'nother
trick.
