Any thoughts on why ablies eat 2" flies and yet will also eat 5" soft plastics with a vengence? Any thoughts?

Sorry to not respond sooner, just got back from 4 days chasing albies and schoolie bluefin tuna. When we think of fly patterns for albies we usually think small, because the size of bait they are on in the northeast is usually small, like bay anchovy, silversides, sand eels and peanut bunker. Offshore I have taken albies on 3/0 butterfish patterns that were 6" long. Generally i match the size and shape of the bait they are on. When there is tons of bait, I'll fish a larger fly to have it stand out.
