Greetings to all fishermen and women
This month has been very challenging for most of us spending our daily time on the water, with all the hurricanes and such. So in light of all the WIND and stained water we did manage to fish on quite a few days.

The month started out great with water levels up in most areas and fish were agressively feeding in, near or in close proximity of the bait pods. The early-fall reds are attracted by the schools of finger mullet now present in the area in great numbers. Along with the high water levels the fish are spread out a bit and choosing a lure to cover a lot of ground is a good idea to locate concentrations of fish. We had great sucess throwing hard baits such as the mirrolure 7M25 grayback and 7M21 black back, both are great imitaters of the actual bait. As far as soft Plastics go, we had good results throwing the riptide minnow in gold n glow and rootbeer colors rigged on an 1/8 oz pro jig head. All of the above lures were fish directly into and on the outer edges of mullet schools for best results.

The Fly anglers had a blast with a small baitfish patterns (polar fiber minnows , and kwans) and managed to land a few nice fish when the wind permitted.
Fishing fresh water runouts and submerged bars we had multiple opportunities at slot sized redfish , snook and trout to 5lbs.

The Snook fishing was slow due to all the fresh water from the storms and made it hard to get to some of the areas we fish due to ramp access and such. However we did manage a few trips with a few fish landed to 10lbs in the SIRL / Wabasso areas.

The inshore tarpon are also a good bet for those who are willing to put the time in to find them, most have been around areas with current flow feeding on glass minnows an mullet as well. The majority of the fish inshore have been in the 10-30lb class and are a blast on lightackle or fly. There are still fish in the 20-30 ft depths off the beach just south of the pier, these too will be chasing schools of mullet.

October will bring cooler temperatures and an outstanding fishery through the entire IRL. The snook bite will improve with the water clearing up in the river and it will be hard to beat live bait fished around structure, such as docks and seawalls. Keeper fish will agressively take these baits with a well placed cast.
Fishing the sebastian inlet is a great choice for th boating angler as the north jetty is closed for repairs. This is a great place to get your rod bent with some 10-12 pounders and the occasional 15-20 lb bulls. These fish will readily take live mullet which are plentiful inside the inlet. The snook will also be feeding on the different stages of the tide in the same areas and will take the same baits as well as some hand picked shrimp when available.

Until next month tight lines and good luck

Good luck to all, and remember it's called fishing, not catching
