Launched the yak the last hour or two of the outgoing, glass calm conditions...thick fog quickly rolled in, marked some fish but as the fog got thicker decided to beach the kayak on a sandbar for safety. Grew frustrated as the sun rose higher, the fog seemed to get thicker. Then I heard a bunch of splashes in the distance, obviously a nice blitz going on. Decision to make: venture through the fog in search of the blitz or continue to wait for the fog to lift. You couldn't see beyond 30 ft and the splashing was on the other side of the main channel. Ah screw it! Jumped in the yak and ventured through. Luckily, the fish were not far, and they were stacked up by another sandbar (so I felt a little more comfortable - didn't think a boat would come cruising through at high speed with a sandbar so close). I was awarded to an acre of busting bass, all to myself. Water was 9-12 ft, I was casting 5" plastic shad. All the fish were 25-27". All this action was right at the slack tide, I thought that was kind of odd. Then the fog lifted, and these fish either went down for good or spread out. For the next hour there was some good fish busting the top, but they seemed to be very finicky. I could see small bait about 1-2" jumping out of the water with bass chasing them, but could only get a few hits on my lure.

I tried trolling the tube and worm as well, but didn't have any success. The water was pretty weedy, which didn't help. Then some jack@$$ came cruising right at me, full speed, only to turn away late and run right over my line and spool me. Not happy!! At that point, the wind really picked up and the fishing was over.

On another note, my wife is 8 months pregnant so between that and the end of the season approaching anyway, I will probably only get a few more chances to get out. I'd love to try the Cape maybe this upcoming weekend and would appreciate any suggestions - either from shore or on the kayak. Thanks!

I don't yak.......only boat, but I hate to hear things like that jerk spooling you. Consideration for a line is one thing but these you know whats should be careful around someone in a yak. I don't get it and I know that what comes around goes around and its too bad we are never around to see jerks like that get their just reward. Glad you caught some nice fish!
