Spent the weekend around Magnolia and a good thing to. Saturday launched at Whites around 7 am. Not much happening but could see birds moving up the coast with purpose. Paddled out and headed around crows point into Kettle cove where I found the birds and fish. Threw out a DNA bunker and picked up a 35" fish. That was the biggest for the next 2 hrs. Caught a ton of 18 - 20 inch fish. What was nice there wasn't to much company. One boat finally showed up and he anchored up in the middle of the entrance. Got tired of catching the small ones and headed out to where I could see birds working a couple of hundred yrds offshore. When I got there I threw a sluggo out and let it go to the bottom (25') and started bringing it in. I got slammed with what turned out to be a very nice 40"fish. A quick release as I got hold of the leader the and grabbed the lip the hook snapped. Tied another jig on, all white, and hooked up again to a respectable fish but never saw it as the line broke. Switched back to flies and picked up several blues. Thw water temp was 60 at the surface and the fish stayed up until I left around noon.
Went back at it on Sunday early and was into the blues right away. Just outside of Kettle cove. This lasted for about 2 hrs and then things quieted down. I think I ran into Leftus and Averjoe in front of the cliffs next to Kettle. That was me in the yellow Walden. They were picking bass out of the rocks. I paddled around headed over towards Sandy beach and worked the rocks in there. Picking up a mix of bass & blues but nothing very large. The wind backed around from WNW to NE and picked up later on and after several hrs of this I packed it in. Stopped by Pavillion beach but that was shut down completely. Water temps ahd dropped from 60 to 58.
Monday I hit it again early, 5:30, and found schoolies right off shore at Whites. With the water steaming in the cold air I could see and here the fish coming up and slurping the bait at the surface. I threw a Puglisi style fly and picked up several fish in the 18" range. The next fish of the same size my trusty Sage snapped about 6" above the ferrule. I've had this rod since I started in the Salt about 10 yrs ago so it was due. I'll send it in and see what happens. I picked up my other rod with the sinking line and started back at em. There was a steady stream of fish for the next hr. I pulled up stakes and headed towards Coolidge point and found Bluefish. The rod and reel I was using was the GoldCup series from Offshore angling. After 2 bluefish the 3rd proved to be a little much for the reel. It started binding as I was reeling in. Thankfully when the fish ran the drag worked and didn't stick. Just reeling in became a problem. however I could live with that. The fishing was steady offshore but the schools were moving around a lot. A little patience and you would have fish surfacing next to you. Even when they weren't on the surface I was marking them on the fish finder and kept picking up fish every few casts. Water temp at the surface ranged from 55 - 58. About 10 I watched the wind come from the South it was pushing a lot of chop with it. I paddled around in this for the next hr or so. As I was paddling towards Graves Island I noticed the birds were in by Whites beach and headed in there intead. Found Bluefish again and picked up several. All the blues were in the 8 lb range and were a lot of fun. After being bouced around and getting wet I decided I had enough and paddled around into Kettle cove. This is a great spot for luanching and beaching as there is a spot halfway down that is protected with no shore break. Also there is a spot where you can park your car to unload or load next to where you come in. As I was getting everything together Pat from 1st light stopped. He mentioned that Singing Beach had lit up Sunday evening. He also said that West Beach was producing as well. Seems like the fall run is finally showing its face.
Starting on Saturday the 9th I'm on vacation until the 19th hopefully things will still be going well up here. If not I'll head South. I'll probably make a trip to Rhode Island during the middle of the week since I've never fished down there. Hopefully I'll have some luck.

Get fishing its getting late.
