Hey guys,

I was born 30 years too soon.

It is a daily struggle for me to catch up with this computer madness.

I have couple of nice pictures I would like to post on. Anyone out there teach me how to step by step?

This is probably one of the questions I get asked the most. Generally one PM or email a week. It's about time I did a How To post on this...

First off, you need your picture in a digital format. You can either scan a regular photo or take a digital image direct from a digital camera. A couple of basic photo notes:

Format the picture as a JPG. Many cameras offer lots of options for digital photos, typically TIFF, GIF or JPG.
The TIFF format is great for print, but not recognized by web browsers.
GIF will work well, and doesn't mess with the quality of the photo, but the files for color photos tend to be huge.
JPG has some compression which makes the file much smaller, and is generally good for the web. If you are ever asked by your photo software, make sure to set the quality level to high or maximum. Otherwise you get a lot of what we call "Artifacts" or junk in your photo.
Okay, now that we have our digital image, you have two image options:

Upload the photo to your own website and link to it in your forum post. This allows the photo to be shown full size in the forum. To post a picture in this manner click the image http://www.reel-time.com/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif icon above and enter the url for your photo.
Load the photo as an attachment. This will create a thumbnail of the image at the bottom of the post and readers will see your full image when they click on the image.
How to upload an image as an attachment:

When in the "Reply to Thread" or "New Thread" window, scroll down below the editor window (the place you type the text of your message).
Look for the "Manage Attachments" button.
When clicked, that will launch a new window (pop up blockers may interfere with this - I recommend you turn them off on RT as we don't serve any junk pop ups).
You will be prompted to browse to the location of your photo on your computer. Find the image, then click the upload button. Repeat to upload more photos.
When you are done, click the "Close this window" button and finish your post.
Click "Submit Reply" or "Submit Thread" button, and your photos will appear as thumbnails.
Troubleshooting: When people have trouble, it is generally related to one of three things.

The image is too big. Most cameras now take high resolutions shots. These need to be edited to a more reasonable size for posting on the site. Aim for something smaller than 600 pixels wide or high. I generally size images for the site at about 300 wide... When this happens, the manage attachments section will tell you the file is too large.
Using the wrong image format. It won't allow you to upload your image in odd formats. If you really need to upload something in a strange format, I suggest you use WinZip and zip the file up.
You're using a pop up blocker and you didn't disable it before trying to manage attachments.
That's it. It sounds like a lot, but it's really quite easy.

a quick easy way to resize images, if you have powerpoint. The slide size is perfect, paste a picture in a slide, make it the full slide size, and save it as a picture file (jpg).
