Many are still fishing:brow , many have hung it up for the year--124-3 . So, I gues this is a question for those who rather sit by the fire than freeze to death...
When do we weant to kick things off for this year?? I am game for anytime...

Also, notice that in the Fly Tying page there is a Swaps sub forum. General anouncements are usually made in the Tying board, but all signups, pictures, general swap discussion is usually in that forum to organize the clutter a bit. Seemed to work well last year.
You can also get a feel for what kinds of flies are submitted with the pictures of all the swap flies in there.
Every year there are some great flies, old classics and new ideas. That and you never know who is going to jump on a swap so there are ocaisionally Celebrity flies... Some people go all out as well, for example last year a tier submitted a unique pattern made from Wool. She went out of her way to include enough materials along with it that when forwarded along, everyone had enough to try and recreate her pattern.
They are open to anyone and everyone but usually capped at a dozen tiers per swap. There are always exceptions to that rule though, like last years landslide Bonefish swap. We may do more than 1 or 2 a month with different themes if the interest is there.
Also, given the response last year, its good to sign up early. We had several that filled up in 1 day.
Last year I acted as the swapmaster for a bunch, and so did several other people. I did them just because it was easy for me to do, but no reason why others can't. We tried to keep a schedule to make it easy to remember....something like We would post a poll around the end of the current swap for the next one. Pick a theme or two, then start the new one on the 1st of the month. So, swaps ran from say the 1st of December to the 15th of January. Around January 1st we would start the next swap to be due Feb 15th and so on...Kept them rolling from the end of November to April.
Hope this helps...

I voted for a November swap, but December is fine with me. I'm still fishin', but that's okay - I'll still participate. Got a crease/surface fly swap in mind? I've recently been recooping from a flu bug and while at home, I tied up a big load of crease flies. I'll post a pic soon...
