Aloha Guys,Was fooling around on the web and found this site,I tye some flys here and there,I'm not really a flyfisherman,We use a bubble and fly rig we call whipping over here,Mostly messing around inshore for jacks,I tye a deciever kinda fly,A "Nehu" imitation,Nehu is similar to a "Silverside or "Bay Anchovy" I think you guys get back East.
Anyway I thought I'd sign on and bug you guys here and there for ideas.

Aloha dude!
I fish the bubble and feather too. Grew up using it in So Cal for bonito and other tunas. Works great in the northeast for false albies and striped bass. We called it splasher and feather--same thing though.
Funny how the best rigs work everywhere! do you have an online site for buying bubbles?

Howzit Slappy?,All the fishing supplies over here have them, some guys use wood floats but w/ the clear plastic bubble you can adjust the weight for different conditions and your line goes thru it instead of having eye screws,I like that better,The fish does'nt pull down the bubble which acts like a marker to let me know about where it's at,Since get plenty reef over here it's nice to know where your fish is and if you get a really good size Jack on you don't have to worry about the screw pulling out,I've seen that happen.
They come in 3 sizes,I use the med. one,Most times I fish 12# mainline w/ 12# flouro leader,It does'nt wind knot as easy and you know about the harder to see aspect. :)

Slappy,We have a cousin to the False Albacore called the Kawakawa,Really hard to tell them apart,Same wavybacks w/ spots below the lateral line,My personal best is 24 lbs.
Mostly a inshore Tuna over here, don't see em much them outside the 50 fathom line,The 20 lbers yank the big reels,We eat them over here,Excellent sashimi,Guess the one's in your neighborhood are'nt valued as tablefare.

hey Kauai Boy,... you're in a nice spot & must be doing pretty Good (I remember the cost of a house was very expensive there). I spent about a week at the Sheraton Coconut Plantation it was real nice. I didn't do so well fishing though. I brought a fly rod and tried a few random spots from shore and only got a few reef type fish here and there. I found Hawaii (pretty much all the islands) to be tough to fish from shore. I'm sure as a local you've got the tricks for better success. The good news is that you have no shortage of "fly tying" materials. The chickens running around there remind me of the squirrels I've got in my back yard here. I wish you good fishing & good times with your kids.

KB, I know what you mean by the "rich" remark. It would take me about a year to chill out, but after that I think I could handle it. As far as my wife is concerned, she would have to go now where else than Kauai. I think it's great too, but I'm still a Big Island man. I love to fish Kona, but not by fly.
Aloha, Animal Chris

Hey Kauai Boy,
You still around on the forum? Coming to K in mid-Jan and plan to chase some bones up at Annini (sp?) Is that the best place on the island for wadeable flats?
Thanks from Chicago
