Just playing around with different materials flor my fly on my day off. Darn fly took over an hour to build. Don't want to loose many of these to mangroves or fan corals.

Nice work Henry!!

I'm in the process of tying a bunch of patterns for my February Abaco trip. I'll add a few of these shrimp too.

I'm sure this trip will turn out like rest of mine....tie 100 flies....use 3!!!!!

Thanks! Doesn't it just figure?. I went down to Eleuthera last March/April with about 400 flies (not all bone patterns). Turns out the best fly...(accounted for the most fish anyways)...was the most boring #6 Tan Charlie you ever saw. Ray, do you do Abaco's DIY, half'n'half or all guided? Abaco's is on my short list for DIY spots. Would really like to do Cat and Mayaguana with the inflatable kayak first though. I'm starting to get a little nervous about those longer "out island" flights though...last Aprils "Southern-Air" Beachcraft1900 is sitting in about 12ft of water 10 miles south of Nassau as of a few weeks ago. At least all aboard got nothing more than an premature bath.

Later pal,

Henry

Henry,
It’s been great watching you evolve your shrimp pattern. Let’s other tiers know what goes into the creation of a new pattern.
The last post, I thought I saw the tail flap. ;)

When I looked at it I thought it was a photo of one of those little crayfish you see in all the new england streams and ponds.

This would be a killer freshwater pattern too!

Henry you read my mind with the Pearl Mylar legs. I tied this last night and I see yours with the mylar legs today. Thanks again for the inspiration. Snuffy

Hey Snuffy, you've taken my fly to a new level. This last tye of yours looks alot like a mantis shrimp. I like it.

Henry,

That is one beauty of a shrimp! Excellent! Now you've done it, you have successfully intrigued me into trying to build one...

Henry, thanks for the kind words. I fished it this morning, but had no takers blind casting. A cold front was overtaking us down here and I think the pressure change slowed the bite for a day. I'll try again in a couple of days.

Henry, before looking your last post, i tied few of your shrimp pattern(first one was horrible...LOL) and i did the legs of mine with pearl mylar braid and some krystal flash and they look great and I use for the antenas peackok hearls that i erase some of the small hairs off, also something that can be done with your pattern is add some egg sack, i have seen shrimp with orange, pink, and yellow egg sacks, i will try some soon with some braid or painting the epoxy, i bet something like that should make some fish turn.
Henry Thanks for this great pattern.

This one has the flashabou legs though you cant see them that much, but as an added bonus it has eggs. Another one for the shrimp cocktail

You folks are great. The beauty of any fly pattern is that it evolves with each tyer. I think a crawfish pattern based on the fly is a great idea. I already know it works on steelhead as I got a 8lb hen on a size 4 "US". Snuffys fly looks so much like a Mantis shrimp and I'm going to try one like that myself. Can't wait to see tyguy's rendition either.

I'm sure some folks know this but it took me some asking to figure it out. I made the Buggy looking eyeballs by burning the end of 40# mono with a lighter. You dont need a big ball as this is not the actual eye. Slide a bead on from the Wal-Mart craft aisle, and set it by super glue. The "eye" is finished by Hard as Nails. It is pretty thick and makes a nice bug eyed look. Keep adding coats until the eye is the size you want. Snuffy
