I will be heading down to the T&C in March, and have booked a couple of half days for bones and wahoo (prices are INSANE). Because of the rediclious prices, I have another 5 days that I am not fishing and would like to try to get into something on my own. Does anybody know of any jacks, tarpon, cuda that sort of thing that could be reached from shore? Many thanks in advance, SK

I have just returned from my second trip to the turks and the fishing from land is limited, however there is places to go if you talk to the locals.
Try behind the conch farm at Leward ,you will see locals fishing down there on the incoming tide and also behind the the Habour Club Villas in the channel opening using pilchards.
I was lucky to have gone out on a charter with Silver deep and your right its insane the prices they charge but it is what it is and they can give you a few tips on where to go on the main land.
We did catch a lot of fish with him on the first charter and then on the second day we caught very little.(just dont take you wife Arthur loves the Ladies)
From my experiance fresh or live bait is the best and this is hard to come by.
I took a bunch of lures and jigs and had know luck from the shore , I even had bonefish swiming at my feet but no takers of my jigs.
They are very smart fish however one place to try is in Flamingo lake if your lucky you will see good numbers tailing if the wind is down which is rare

The Isalnds are a great place just dont go with huge expectationsand enjoy them for what they are.

the best of luck

Yo Soundking,

You'll love T&Cs, I was there two years ago & it was awesome. The ocean side produced a mixed bag of small cudas, big ceros (I caught a few over 3'), bar and horse-eye jacks. The horse-eyes are fast, tough and not too picky at dawn and dusk. The mouths at either end of the channels between the islands are good fishing, with decent fishing on the smaller flats between.

Below is a reply I sent a few weeks back to Yozuri-Man. The same basic info applies.

Check you PM for some specifics.

Chris

...If you can find any points with an island off it, these channels tend to produce well two hours before and after high-tide. The rising tide is generally better fishing, especially for bones.

The key is to be prepared for a variety of bait. 1/8 to ¼ oz white jigs (Spros work great) will catch a lot of fish if there is small fry around. If there are pilchards, 3” to 4” Mister twister (pearl with black backs) will catch a lot of fish, and if you’re lucky, there will be some Ballyhoo in the area, which means more variety (Tarpon) will be feeding aggressively at dawn. If this is the case, 6” white slug-gos with a ½ oz lead head do the trick. Also, when it’s slow, fishing the slug-gos un-weighted (like we do for stripers) works for Tarpon & Jacks… And works like a charm if you see any sharks on the flats as well :) Just make a lot of noise with it and hold on!

Good luck! Let us know how you do.

PS the Spros & small Clousers fished slow in turtle grass & shallow sandy areas (1-3') will catch bones.

Hi, new here but had to answer you.
Yes, it is expensive but in my opinion well worth your money if you go with Edward Missick of Catch the Wave Charters! I just went with each of the better known guides and hands down, Ed was the best! He took me to flats that have never seen a boat or person before and the bones were enormous! He really put the effort into my trip and you could tell he was just as enthuseastic as me if not more! His boat is sweet and we flew to the flats! Well worth the extra time to get there. I landed 11 huge bones and hooked at least 20 more. The number I missed I can't tell you! This was a full day and worth the extra money instead of the half day. Lunch was terrific! This company is more professional and deffinately more friendly!

I have fished with Arthur Dean of Silver Deep many times over four trips. He and I were always in sync and I did extremely well. My wife also loved fishing with him (with a spinning rod). If you stay at Parrot Cay, you can kayak across the channel from the dock and fish the flats around the island. I have caught bones there wading, but the sand is soft in many spots so be careful. I can't help with wading flats on Provo.

The best flies always seem to be tan. I have done well with bonecrushers, charlies, small fur shrimp, and the occassional gotcha. If you use a spinning rod, clear curly tail grubs with silver flakes and a chartreuses jig head always did the trick with Arthur.

Good luck! It is a great place. Arthur has taken me to flats where I have never seen another boat and caught bones all day, with many over 8 lbs (a 12 lb that my son cast to was the biggest I have seen there).
