Guys,
I'm a longtime freshwater tyer but I'm taking a trip to Belize in the spring and want to start tying my own bugs for the trip. I've always tied my saltwater patterns on the Mustad 34007 but I'm leaning towards a chemically sharpened hooks since I'll only be tying 75-100 flies sizes 1/0 - 8.

Can anyone give me some directions on which the best hook is for bonefish / permit hooks (crab & shrimp). Also what would you recommend for Decievers and larger tarpon and snook flies? Any guidance would be a huge help!!!!

Thanks much from a saltwater wanna be....
Steve

HI
MUSTAD 34007 IS A GREAT HOOK DONT SEE WHY YOU WANT TO CHANGE, JUST STAY WITH IT, IF YOU NEED TO SHARPEN ANY HOOK YOULL TAKE A SHARPENER.
fOR BONEFISH, PERMIT AND EVEN SNOOK #6 TO #1/0
fOR TARPON I PREFER TYING ON EAGLE CLAW LO67 3/0, HAS A WIDER GAP, AND VERY STRONG.
BY THE WAY, WHY SO MANY FLIES?? HOW LONG WOULD YOU STAY??

--126-3- they sell these at cabelas for 6.99 (1/0-2/0-3/0 per 80)
(1-2-4-6-perr 100)in these qty's for that price item #tr-31-0529 @ www.cabelas.com
unless money grows on trees at your house i would use the Lo67 from egale claw there billy pate salt water hook

thing is i have ben tying for a wile now and the shop i am loyal to carys tiemco and daiichi and a few outhers and i see no difference between mustads and tiemco and daiichi's
you can find tiemco'sand daiichi's at www.bobmarriotts.com
think is they are over priced on ther LO67's here i would stick with cabelas for those by the way i forgot about this web site http://www.belizeflatsfishing.com/index.html
cheeck it out it may help you find some stuff out any ways good luck to you

good luck and very tight lines rhino --123-3 --123-3 --123-3

When fishing in my local waters I use Mustad's & Verivas because it's not a big deal to have extra equipment around to sharpen hooks or have multiple fly boxes around.

If I was travelling and targeting bones, permit & tarpon - I would go with something like the Daichi X-points. You will never have to worry if they're sharp.
