View Full Version : New Years on Sanibel

I am heading with my inlaws to sanibel island for New years. In Years past I have been able to escape for a day of backcountry fishing out of Tarpon bay marina. Can anyone give me some advice on how the fishery made it through the hurricane, and where i might find some reds and snook. I am a little too poor for a guide, so i will be shore bound or in a rental canoe.
Thanks in advance

Can't help too much, Greenhorne, but can tell you about comments from a friend who fishes the area in Florida. He said that the "cut" in the Captiva pass has provided excellent fishing since that hurricane.

The cut and any of the passes are good. Snook season is closed 12/15 - 1/31. Reds should be good.

Greenhorne bring crab pattern's on #6,4 and #2 hook's. The red fishing is really hot right now. Check out www.barflyfish.com and look at the Baboon fly pattern and tie up some of those. It's a killer fly.
