I need to send a rod back to LL Bean for repairs.

I'm having trouble finding something to put it in to mail.

Any suggestions?

Bob- I've shipped several rods and found the easiest way to do it is put the rod in its tube and find some cardboard to make a square tube the length of the rod tube plus 2 inches. The square tube should be slightly larger than the diameter of the rod tube so some packing can be inserted to keep the tube from rattling in the cardboard tube. Seal the ends and the side well with packing tape. This type of package will go either US Mail or UPS the two methods I usually use because of convenience. Ron

Bob,
I too have shipped several rods, I just put the rod in the tube, throw some duct tape over the cap to prevent unscrewing, and mail.
No problems.

Thanks guys... now if I had a rod tube........

I know, I'll order a new rod (I'm sure I could use one) and use what that comes in.

Coming in on this a little late, but another alternative to consider is PVC pipe. Not to take away you very valid reason for purchasing another rod but...Go to a home center store and buy 1 1/2" or 2" PVC pipe, one end cap that you glue on, and a second end cap that you screw on. Almost indestructable. Total cost will be less than shipping charges. One note of caution, the PVC cement is potent stuff, use it outside.
