My wife and I have decided on heading to the Bahamas next November for vacation. I have fished in Abaco before but want to try a different spot. She is a non-fisher and we both will be doing some diving. She doesn't mind coming on the boat with me and my guides. Somewhere with a beach with fewer sandflies would be nice too. Andros sounds like it has the best fishing and diving, Long island better resorts. Renting a house isn't out of the question either.

I went to the Andros Island Bonefish Club with a bunch of friends this year and I'm going again in February. A great place, great time, great fishing, but FWIW, it's really a fishing place - not a lot to do if you're not fishing - no beach, for example. I seem to recall that there is a place, perhaps called Te Amo (?) on Andros that is a small luxury resort-type place that also has guides and fishing - and it's hard to imagine the flats fishing being better than it is on Andros.

My wife and I had the same delema last year and we went to Tiamo the lodge is great and the food excelent. At first look you would think the beach is great but the sand flies are horrible she got eaten alive also the guides are ok but not great. If you like to dive I have heard the diveing at Tiamo is excelent they are very close to the blue holes and the Toung of the ocean. If your wife is going to be out on the boat with you the bugs may not be a problem except for at night. A big plus would be the fishing is ala cart so you don't have to go every day they also have some good flats right by the lodge or kayaks available for use to reach some others.

Friends of mine who look for a similar type of vacation as you - he fishes; she dives - have enjoyed Stella Maris resort on Long Island; they've returned there many times.
They report no problems with sand fleas on the beach. She raves about the diving, and he has done well fishing with Docky Smith, the head guide at Stella Maris. I visited the resort in April, 2003 and was impressed with the place - it is quite nice.

Try Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort on Long island which is on the most gorgeous beach imaginable and has a terrific resort with villas right on the beach. Much nicer facility than Stella Maris (which is on a 100 foot cliff with a not-so-good ocean beach) although the people at Stella Maris are really nice folks, too. The good hard-working, honest people on Long Island are like our new family. I would fish with either Docky Smith out of Stella Maris, or with Maurice Rahming (email me for his phone number). Your wife will love you for taking her to Cape Santa Maria! She can dive with Delbert, the Cape's divemaster or with Wayne), but check first to determine that their diveboats are working (ask for Wendy, not Frank, when you call).

Take a look, if its luxury that your wife is looking for, take a look at this....www.kamalame.com (http://www.kamalame.com) . Wonderful rooms and location, a bit pricy though.

I'm going to be at Tiamo from 12/6-12/16 for my honeymoon. I'll let you know how the fishing and the rest of it is. It'll be my first trip there, and also first to the Bahamas. I know there's not a ton of stuff to do, but I'm really looking more to relax and not do a lot of stuff. I plan to get some good reading done, and fishing of course, plus some sailing, hiking, kayaking, lying on the beach, etc. In general, just to relax! :)

My wife and I own a rental home on a wonderful, 6-mile long beach on South Andros Island. Perfect for anglers with non-angling guests. Http://so-andros.com/beachhouse .
