View Full Version : need merkin crab help
On Merkin crabs, does the fly ride hook point up or down. Are the rubber legs tied on the top or the bottom of the shank? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hook up. Dumbell eye are tied on top of hook behind hook eye. Not too heavy at it is supposed to dive to the bottom at an angle, like the real thing does when it is escaping.
I tie them on the top and then work them thru the yarn so the stick out the side.

try the site above if you need to see a pattren. most often if i want a lighter fly i will use bead chain so it don't splash down as hard.when fishing for spooky fish. most often i tye the legs so hook point rides up.so dumbells on top the opposite of the hook point. legs tyed on hook point side.
good luck and tight lines rhino --123-3 --123-3 --123-3

I second all the answers above.
Something you got to have in mind is the diving movement of crabs they wont ever dive straight down, they dive in a zig zag way. Put special attention to the weight.
Hope you tie a permit ripper.
