I am from the SPI area and have been fishing some back lakes that connect with the Laguna Madre. These back lakes are rich with mangroves and have a variety of species of fish. During certain tides monster carp come out and tail around the mangroves. I threw a couple of patterns at them but they showed no interest. The water is merky but only a few inches deep. Any suggestions? Second, I have come to the realization that sheephead are the permit of south texas. I have lately seen some monsters up on the sand tailing and groups cruising. I have thrown about every shrimp pattern I have at them and they run like they know. Again, any suggestions?

This guy that works at RODMAKERS in San antonio has had a lot of success with a umpqua pattern called butt-ugly. It looks like a large sculpin pattern. Carp are very frustating. 1st you have to know which kind of carp you are dealing with. Suckers for example are prolific on the Blanco river in New Braunfels but those little **&*% simply will not go for flies. BIG German carp on the other hand can be caught. I had on go for a wooly buggar pattern and I have read that they will take a coffee bean fly.
