Greetings -

I'm new to this site -- there's some great stuff here!

Does anyone have any recommendations for guided fly fishing near Cancun -- without the long drive to Ascension Bay? Hoping for experienced guides for a day or two of a week-long family vacation.

Many thanks!

Mark

Armando Rafratt cancun area I might have spelled his last name wrong. when you fly in to the cancun airport when leaving if you turn left you will pass over the iznuc bridge this is great tarpon fishing from shore on the side the hospital entrance is. guards with machine guns guard the gate. I fished for over 4 hours no problems. Just watch for the jet skis and lil boat tours that come thru or maybe they should watch out, I caught and released over 10 100-150lb tarpon there and numerous free releases.

Look at the website www.pescamexicana.com. There is an early morning ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel and the flats fishing is great. Punta Allen is tought to get to if you are not used to the road and the overnight housing is very limited.

I fished with Rodman Hunter in the lagoon. His boat is located opposite Sun Palace. His number is (044-98) 74-63-33 (that's how it is on his card) e-mail rodman@cancunflyfishing.com website is www.cancunflyfishing.com.

He put me and my son on baby tarpon all day and my son had shots at two snook. We fished out of a 17' Maverick Mirage. Rodman was very pleasant, a competent flyfishing guide and spoke perfect English. We were there at Christmas time, so I didn't expect much success and was pleasantly surprised. When the weather is warmer there are bonefish and permit in the area.

Isla Blanca is about an hour north of Cancun. They will pick you up, fish all day and drop you back at your hotel. They catch bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook and other denizens of the shallows. Good luck. Chris

Greetings, all!
Thank you for the information about fishing in Cancun. I have made some contacts to set up a trip or two. I'll be there the first week of February and will post a report when I return. Again, THANKS and good fishing!
