My wife and I will be in Quepos from 12/26 to 1/14. I'm looking forward to the shore-based fishing -- snook at the rivermouths, roosters and jacks from the beach -- and maybe getting out on a boat for sails. Any advice on places, tides, tackle? I have Mirrolures and DOA shrimp for the snook. Also, always looking for fishing partners if anyone is down that way.

Wow, that's a long trip! Be sure to check our Manuel Antonio, just south of Quepos, it's beautiful. I've been to the Quepos area 4 times and I wouldn't say it's great for shore fishing. There are some river mouths south of the area which are supposed to have good snook fishing. I found it difficult to access these areas and the one day I did, I fished very hard to no avail. That being said, it's a very good area for sailfish, roosters, amberjacks, grouper, and snapper from a boat. I'd recommend making a multi-day deal with a local boat operator and target inshore for a few days, then blue water for the other days. I've caught many of the above mentioned species in the area. It's not cheap though, but if you have time to spend almost a month down there, it doesn't sound like price will be too much of a concern for you.
