I will be traveling through Honduras in late January and plan to make a stop in the Bay Islands to do a little fly fishing. Can anyone provide me with some information on their experiences fishing around Utila, Roatán, or Guanaja?

Thanks!

Paul

Limited bonefishing on your own but theres a nice flat right off the airport runway on Utila which had nice bonefishing and some small permit. Theres other small flats within waliking distance from town and also baby tarpon in the lagoon around town, definitely slam possibilities. I was there in 89-90' but things really don't change much in those parts. Most expensive hotel room was 7$ back then and a beer wa 65 cents, we had a great time there and I would love to go again. Roatan supposedly has bones but we didn't see any in the couple days we visited. Gaunaja has lodge fishing but never been and is spendy.I'd do Utila, lovely island and lovely people its a little backwards but was a wonderful place and gorgeous waters and great diving also. Any more questions let me know?

Thanks for the reply! I am looking forward to my travels through Honduras and it would be a bonus to spend a few days casting on the flats around the bay islands. Who knows, I may also make my way to La Moskita and take a few casts there.

called Permit on the Fly where I believe he has a chapter on fishing Honduras for permit.
