We've all heard of the renowned flats fishing for Bonefish in the Indo/Pacific oceans in places like the Seychelles, Christmas Island and the like. But scanning the IGFA line class records you'll find that Zululand, in South Africa on the East African coastline, features. And I've also seen photographs of big fish taken on bait in Mozambique and heard reports of Bones from Kenya. I guess remote areas with little fishing pressure.
Then of course there are the 'deep water' Bonefish off Hawaii.
But this one was completely new to me. One of our Club members has recently returned from the Thai resort island of Phuket, thankfully 10 days before the devastating tsunami struck. His skipper showed him a photograph of a 13lb Bonefish that had been caught on bait, bottom fishing in 200' of water. You can see the photograph on http://www.bluewater-anglers.com/catchreports2.htm
They're not exactly common - it's only the 3rd he's encountered. But it certainly demonstrates just how widespread they are.
Kindest regards
