Mike, Sweet colors. You ever consider moving the junglecock eye on your squid flatwings back to the hook bend? Maybe palmering a hackle a few times at the hook eye? Not sure if that violates the "flatwing" aspect of the fly or not though...

Well, it would be difficult to seat a jungle cock eye at the bend since the tail feathers are tied in flat. As far as a hackle at the front, I would recomend marabou. Tie in by it's tip,"fold" and wrap. However, I found that it is not needed. The bucktail collar gives the "shape" and the flatwing tail gives the action.Remember flatwings are about impresionism, not realism.

Great fly. What size and type of hook is that?

Hook is a 2/0 eagle claw 254f. I tie most of my flies on that size hook. I do use a size 4 on bay anchovie and a 4/0 on my flatwings larger than 8" in length though.
