There are three of us that are going to Crooked island on Feb 12th. This is our first time. I have been contacted by a guide, Clinton Scavella, who wants to put us up at Frank and Ruths Guest house, will fish us for 6 days (400.00 a day for 3) and has given us a price for it all. We are going to actually be there longer than 6 days and want to diy fishing if possible. My questions is, does anyone know of Clinton or have personal experience with him and are there places to go that you can walk the flats without a guide. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

Hi there.

I've fished with Clinton. I thought he was a competent and hard-working
guide. The guest house is clean and simple... food (mostly fried) is
wonderful. If I remember correctly, his radio 'handle' is SilverKing (for
the type of boat he owns/operates).

Make sure you get snuck into the inland ponds (ssshhhhh! there're
tarpon in 'em). You'll also see tarpon in the creek that empties into
French Wells.

Best bonefishing I've experienced there was on the south side of Crooked.
It's a long boat ride from the 'harbor' (30-40 minutes each way) but well
worth it. There were a cluster of small mangrove outcroppings called
"mother and child" or "auntie and gramma" or something matriarchal... a little
bumpy but hard packed sandy bottom that was relatively easy to wade
and supported a LOT of 2-6# bones.

There're some (small) islands between Long Island and Acklins (out in the
middle of nowhere) that sometimes hold permit... but getting there in
skiffs can be really dicey (WX dependant).

Usually, on the way home from the south shore, we stop in French Wells
and troll/cast for (big) cuda, snapper and other fun fish.

Too bad things at the lodge in Pitts Town have fallen apart... I don't know
if Robbie is still there.... but in the summer there's a GREAT marlin bite in
the area. Also, ask around about trolling for wahoo... they sometimes get
_really_ big there.

Hope this helps....
