I am considering buying a Scout 172 or 175 with a 90 HP Yamaha. Does anyone have any experience with these models or similar?

I have been out on Capt. Wayne Frieden's 17'2" as well as Dave Corbet's 20'2". Both are super boats with attention to detail. I am sure they can tell you more...

I own a 175 with a 100 4 stroke Yamaha. It is a terrific combination and the Scout is wonderful, smooth and dry boat. Everyone talks about fit and finish on a Scout and they are all correct, it is first class. I understand that the 175 is drier and smoother than the 172, but I haven't been on a 172. The 175 hull is the same hull style as the 185 a little deeper than the 172. One complaint I have is that there are no recessed horizontal rod racks. And, the layout of the boat make it impossible to have racks for 9 ft fly rods without drilling large holes in rear compartments for tubing. Have been reluctant to do that, but am trying to figure out where to mount vertical tubes to hold fly rods broken down in 2 pieces rather than on sides of the console because it takes up too much room Another complaint is that the console is very large. The good news is lots of storage. The bad news is less room on either side. By and large I am very pleased with the boat and it will motor(slowly)across the flats in less than a foot and 1/2 of water. And float, in less than 12". They are a little pricey, but worth the money and their good reputation continues to grow.

I recommed the 175. Have had some problems with the Yamaha 100. Mechanic found 2 gallons of gas in the oil sump. It is under warranty, but I haven't heard from my dealer (Allen Harbor) what Yamaha has said causes this and how to cure it. Has to be gas spilling around the rings before they expand from heat but......? Must check that out next week

Good luck with your search!
