Has anyone had any experience with salt water fly rods by St.Croix? Especially the nine and ten weight.

The legend elite 10 wt is a beautiful casting rod. Moreover, it is incrediby light in the hand. A pleasure to blind cast with throughout the day. I bought a second one after one season of striper fishing with it.

Own Legend Ultra's in both 8wt and 11wt, very pleased with both. The 11wt is very powerful, handles the heaviest shooting heads with ease.

I fish St Croix rods exclusively. Started with their entry level about 10 yrs ago and just keep moving up the line. I agree with the comments on the Ultras, beautiful casting rods. Good backbone for fighting fish too.

Ditto. The Avid series is a little lighter than other mid flex rods I've tried. Match the line weight to the rod with those. On a 9wt a 350 gr is heavy on that rod. The exception to that is when I balance the heavy line weight with a giant half chicken of a fly. The drag in the air helps for some reason, not the right reason, but some reason. I also have a diamondback I use as a backup 9wt. I like the performance of the Avid much better.

I LOVE the Legend Elites. I fished a 10 wt last year, and casted the 9 as well. TON of backbone in that rod. High sticking the rod tip will skip schoolies accross the surface. They are really smooth to cast. I never upped the line weight on that rod though so I don;t know how it performed, but with an evenly matched weight the performance was really good. The 350gr felt like a floating line...loaded the rod with ease.

Love my Legend Ultra 10 wt (the old model...it was redesigned in the last year or so and may be better now). One of the best values out there, I think, for a bit over $300. Made in the USA.

I have the Legend Ultra 6,8 and 10 weights and am very happy with them. Also, St. Croix service has been very good when I have needed it.

I think my next fly rod may be a St Croix. I have two of their travel spinning rods and they're amazing casting rods. I can cast a light plug halfway across the canal with ease!

i have the Legend Ultra 10'6" 9 weight that Bob Popovics helped design. I love that rod. I did snap the tip off of it two years ago casting a teeny 350 line, but I think it was because it high sticked a snag, and not because the rod couldn't handle the line. I sent it back to St. Croix, and they sent me another full tip section that they had fitted on the middle piece (it's a 3 piece). I had the rod back about a week and a half later.

I will definitely look to St. Croix for my next blank. I'm thinking about picking up some of their SCII or SCIIIs to try some different set ups.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with St. Croix for the price.
