I posted this question on the boats forum, but got nothing. If anyone has some experience with outboard mounted trolling motors, I would love to hear about it. Although I have a 4 stroke, I feel like I need to get a little more stealth out of my boat to approach busting tuna and albies. Any info would be great!

Had one on a 1910Lt Jones Bros. boat. thought it was a good thing. Good for fishing rocky areas and also good to stem some current to stay in rip or at least allow for more than one presentation to the sweet spot. I guess how much power you need for your boat would be something to consider, mine only had a single prop, they come with up to three, I would have likd more thrust, as I think I weighed around 2600-2800 lbs depending on amount of fuel. You'll need space for extra batteries and probably a battery charging system

The one that I'm looking at has 3 props and has 165# of thrust. My boat weighs about 3800 pound loaded, so I figure that there is no such thing as too much power from a trolling motor. Do most of the chargers charge the trolling batteries with the outboard running or do you just plug them in?

I'm not so sure that your money will be well spent if your goal is to be able to get closer to the SBFT. I had fish surrounding my boat(19" Sea Boss) several times this summer with the engine(115 Johnson/Suzuki 4stroke) running. Also, the fish move so fast that it is usually better to let them come to you by projecting their track and intercepting them. ;)

If anyone know about troll motors, what does 65 means on 28 lb thrust troll motor?

Featherbaiter,
Go to classicseacraft.com do a search on the performance forum for "trolling Motors". On 1/5/05 there is a post titled yamaha 4 stroke ... when you open this there are some good comments and a sweet picture.
