I picked up an older No. 2 Fin Nor ( the version that says "since 1933")antireverse reel which was in absolutely mint shape. Gorgeous reel with substantial drag. Only problem is, it is right hand retrieve and I use my left hand. According to the Fin Nor instructions it can be converted by the manufacturer. I'm not sure if Fin Nor in it's present incarnation would be willing to make the conversion. In taking the reel apart, it seems the clutch gear teeth are directional and would need to be reversed and then the dogs would have to be flipped. The gear is press fitted on the hollow shaft and is not reversible to my knowledge because it's permanently fitted to the shaft. The gear isn't flat anyway so it can't be turned over. Does anyone know how to make the change or who might in the absence of a response from Fin Nor be able to make the conversion? Thanks, Bill

Check to see who may be Fin-nor authorized dealers in your area and they may be able to switch the reel for you without sending it to Fin-nor. But you're right in that the company itself is in disarray. Btw, I have the direct drive version of the same reel and it has served me just fine since 1991.

You might try Aquarius Rods in Miami Springs, Fla. At one time they had the most extensive parts inventory for all of the older Fin Nors... They even were able to assemble "wedding cake" copies with some of the parts being machined up to the old specs.. I don't have their phone number, at one time they were one of the shops that I tied for. If they're still up and doing Fin nors you might want to post it since there's probably more than a few fellows with the old reels that would be interested. I have one of the few classic #2 reels (that's the series you have, they came after the wedding cakes and were produced up to the early eighties) that's equipped with a rim control spool that I'll be selling one of these days...

you might want to at least try to deal with the new fin nor. they're in north carolina, i have dealt with them a few times with busted spinning reel--and they have been very helpful. i forget the address, but you can find it online, i think they're in cape fear... call them... at least give it a shot.

The FinNor repair dept has no more parts to convert older reels for some time now. I have a LH conversion kit and can do the conversion if you still need.

Bob

Fin Nor has been bought by Zebco. I contacted them because I need to change a right hand #3 to left hand. They gave me the following person to contact for this: Dave Conners 910-845-5323. I spoke to him today and he has the conversions for the #2 but not for the #3. He is currently doing the repair work for Fin Nor thru Zebco.
Now if anyone out there has a different place to check for a conversion for a Fin Nor #3 anti-reverse I would certaining appreicate the info.
Thanks
TC
Bill do you have a conversion for a #3?

I would second the Archuleta recommendation. Bill is awesome. He repaired a couple of my reels. A pleasure to work with.
