I have a few questions about the Tibor Backwater Wide. I just wanted to get an idea as to whether the drag would be affected by cold / moisture / ice (when I dunk the reel, as it always seems iI do! )when fishing for steelhead or salmon? Also, is the drag strong enough to handle a 15-20lb steelie or salmon on long runs? At maximim drag what would you estimate the resistance to be? Is the palming rim on the spool wide enough, and shaped properly, to use comfortably (very important for me)? I was settled on a Loop evotech LW before I got wind of this reel. Have to consider it based on Tibor's reputation. Thanks!

I used one for steelhead and light bonefish(more salt than fresh). One the plus side it was very lightweight though I thought the frame was easier to chip than other tibors. The main problem was that the drag knob would stick(even when lubricated) and was very difficult to adjust. A couple of times I have to use pliers to do so. I owned one for 6 months and sold it.

I just got one in from Cabela's last week.
Seems like a very nice little reel. I plan on using it on a Sage XP 7 weight for early/mid season stripes. I see no reason it would handle most inshore fishing needs.

I think it will be adequate for fish up to 18-20#'s. Probably close to 4.5-5#'s. Moreso for stripes than blues. I don't think quite up to Albies, although maybe bonito.
I'm thinking it is a perfect 7wt size reel. It is really small. When I opened the box and saw the reel pouch I wondered if the forgot to put in the reel.
But I was surprised by the amount of drag, and the drag adjustment knob. It took me a minute to find it. But as you would expect from a Tibor very smooth and well machined. Flawless blue anodizing.
Cabela's has them for $175.00, plus I had a $20 online coupon, so it was a no brainer.
