I am looking to replace my 8 and 10 weight's with a good quality mid-priced ($200 to $250) fly reels as I have $500.00 to spend. I was looking at the Redington Brakewater 9/10 and 8/7 and the Tenton LA Saltwater model 9-11LA and 8/7LA or any other recommendations. I was looking for some positive or negative responces!!!!!!
Do you mean Teton reels? I have many of the Tioga models including the new Magmun #10. Bulletproof reels with great spool prices.

Brakewater's.
You won't be disappointed. Anytime you can get $450.00 reels for under $200.00 grab them.
I own one of each size. No faults whatsoever.

I've seen some good reviews of the Brakewaters, wondering why they aren't carried more widely. Don't think I've seen them in any fly shops in NY area, not available from Cabela's, etc. What gives??

My primary saltwater reel is a Lamson Velocity, no problems at all in two years I've used it. Very light reel, about 3 oz. lighter than the Brakewater in the same size. Both reels for a 9 wt. are same diameter, but the Brakewater has a wider spool. Priced about the same. The conical drag system on the Velocity is sealed, but when the reel was first introduced some people
reported water infitrating the seal, leading to problems. I haven't experience this on my reel, which has seen plenty of good dunkings.
I prefer the drag in the Velocity to the Teton drag system. I have a Tioga as well, but the adjustment range on the drag is very small, goes from no drag to clamped down in less than 1/4 turn of the knob. Might just be my reel.

I Own R. Brakewaters 7/8 to 11/12 and I'm extremely happy with them. Three years of saltwater use and no problem at all. I know some guys chassing Saifish :brow and YFT up to 65 pounds --126-3- . Whatelse can you expect from a reel of 250 US (#$119) .
I don't own one yet, but I got only good words about the new TFO flyfishing reels. They look awesome as well. Give them a try. As you know Lefty :) is behind rods and reels design. That 's explain a lot ;) .

Have you considered the Ross BG reels, I have the #4, used it just about everyday from May to early Nov. last year, caught lots of fish and never had a problem

My personal favorite are the Bauer's. Although the Ross BG5 looks like a sweet reel. The Bauer M5s is a little cheaper and weighs a little less then the Ross.
You get what you pay for!

I just got my Canyon #4 for my 8wt, and have only used it in FL, handled a decent Pelican with ease until the hook pulled, not to mention my 300lb Uncle stepping on it and an assortment of snook, ladyfish and trout.
Sweet reel

That's a damned good by every day of the week. I think you will really like it. Superb fit and finish and nice large cork drag system.
If after this summer of use you hate, I'll take it off your hands. ;)

Now go find a nice 9wt RPLXi for about the same $$$'s and you will have one bass whoopin' combo.

There's nothing wrong with RPL's whatsoever.
The RPLXi is a tad bit faster, just as the XI2 is faster than the RPLXi. If your comfortable casting the 9 weight, I wouldn't look for a new stick at all. The evolution of the Sage line can be quite easily followed up the learning curve of fly rod technology. The RPL was a huge step up from previous scrims.
