I have been looking for a bullet proof reel and this looks like one. I want it for stripers on my 9wt. It looks very tough, but i have no clue. WHat do you guys think of this reel, is it a cheepo with abel written on it, or is it just a LESS artistic reel for a good price?

i don't know firsthand what the x-stream reel is like, i am under the impression it is their entry level reel. i will tell you that i own 4 abel reels (super series) and i fish them really hard, and they are great. i doubt if abel would put their name on something less than top quality.

Have you looked at the Harris Solitude 4 or 5?, they are both offered with or w/o Large Arbors. I have three Harris's, of various sizes and they are EXCELLANT, Fresh or Salt Water Reels with an outstanding Barrel Drum Sealed Drag System. Check out their Site @ www.harrisreel.com

Abel makes 2 types of Xtreme reels. The smaller ones are clicker type trout reels and the larger ones, like 8 wt. and up, are essentially the same as the Big Game reels without the polish and all the perforations in the spool. The drag, bearings and hardware are the same as on the Big Game series.

for my .02 $ the harris is a decent reel, many round edges that wont fowl the reel if it does get beat off the rocks. The reel likes the cold, and has a solid drag. I realize this is not the input that you are looking for, but information none the less
