I went for a ride saturday and checked out the charles river at the boat launch on woerd ave off rt 20. the river is pretty much iced out, some shore areas still have minor ice that will probably be gone in the next few days.

this area looks like a prime early spring largemouth/pike fishery. but, the ramp looks to be a long way from being operational. you could easily carry a small boat down to the water if you have two people though.

does anyone out there know what the deal with the woerd ave ramp is? Someone that replied to my earlier post about the charles called it the "nearly completed" launch area. that is a little bit optomistic i think, since the area is still completely dirt w/o asphalt anywhere. a sign there said, " expected completion date fall 2004". guess the state cant even handle the little digs properly. does anyone know what department of the fish and wildlife dept. to contact to get info on when the ramp will be done?

can anyone tell me if there is a working boat launch anywhere near this area? I need a ramp you can drive a trailer down b/c I'm often alone and I'm not he-man enough to muscle a 10 foot johnboat with a 7.5 horse motor down to the water myself.

If anyone can tell me where to launch I will be out next weekend and will post fishing reports from this area.

thanks guys!

Wait til the spring and the workers show back up there Mon-Friday. They'll be your best gauge as to when it will be done.

It's not quite "in that area", but it is on the same river...there is a simple dirt ramp out in Needham/Dover stretch of the Charles, just upstream of the falls at Charles River Village, that is used for bass boats like yours.
