I have the opportunity to get a Bauer MX3 or MX4. I currently have Islanders and I am happy with them. Anybody have any experience with them good or bad. They look to be a good real. I am not concerned about price this time.

Thanks for your help.

Buzz, I moved your thread here because I thought you would get a better response. It was in the Fly tying forum. Thanks

Go for it...I have 3 Bauers and IMO they're as good as it gets...

Don't know about the MX but I have the MSL and it has proven itself on bass albies and bonefish. I would definitely buy another.

Bauers are pretty simple to maintain and they have good customer service...

I have two Bauer reels, one for a 9 wt and one for my 12 wt. I have put plenty of hours on both and I can say that I think they are the best reels for salt that I have ever used. Easy maintenance. Great drag that is infinately variable.

I would go for what ever it takes. Your grandchildren will get years out them as well, they are a two generation reel. :brow

I have two MX4s and couldn't be happier with them, smooth cranking and smooth drag. As for service, I have no clue, I have not needed it.

One thing you might not like is changing spools, the drag knob and spindle need to be removed to change it. Bauer may have changed their design since I bought my reels.
