After the rain stopped I picked up some bait and went over to Peter's pond. I did not like what I saw so headed to Hathaway's pond. Set up four tipups and proceeded to jig the fifth hole. Caught a bunch of finger long yellow perch by jigging and a few larger ones. First flag to go had the spool screaming faster than I've ever seen. Set the hook and pulled in a 15" tiger trout. Over the course of 2hrs I used up most of a dozen shiners. Landing only one other trout 13" rainbow. These shiners were medium in size (best I could do). I suspect the size of the shiners kept them from being swalled quickly and hooks were being pulled as line got dragged through the weeds and as I tried to set the hook.

Scorton's and trout. I've caught them around 6a and at the mouth. They could be in pools almost anywhere but I think most people prefer the pools north of 6a.

They put Rainbows in there last year?

I thought they could only put brookies and Tigers in that pond...I guess the pond has a high PH level/alkaline level or something like that. The Rainbows and Browns aren't suppose to be able to handle it. But I guess the Brookies can...

Interesting...Maybe they threw a few rainbows in there last year to see if they could hold over...

You should call the Southeast District and let them know that a Rainbow held over in that pond. Maybe they'll put more in this year...Hell, I may even call them!!! By the way, somebody caught like a 27inch tiger or something like that last year...On the right side.

Your right, it was a brook trout not a rainbow. Been along time since I've done any trout fishing. As I kid I used to catch brook trout in small streams never in ponds.

Those brookies are beautiful over there...

I'm going to fish that place more often this spring!

Used the three live and one dead shiner left over from yesterday to fish Wequaquet. Ice was in the five to six inch range with the edges skimmed over from last nites colder temperatures. Did not venture far or spread the tip-ups out much since I was worried that the bright sun would soften the ice to the point of being unsafe. Got more perch and bigger ones. The dead shiner produced two perch and one 27" pike.

Hey Bob, you didn't happen to see any open water in that area. I am thinking abvout hitting hamblin or shubal but didn't know if i was wasting my time. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe with the weight of the forecasted snow the ice will sink and the ponds will open up. (#$119) The most open water I've seen is out in the middle of wakeby-mashpee. I have not checked the ramp area. I would think you would have better chances at Long Pond in your area for open water. If one were real desperate he could fish the small patch of open water I saw at Peter's Pond.

As of Sunday, 3/20, Long Pond still had ice except for the launching ramp. One person fishing through the ice although it looked dangerous. Stopped by hatchery (bored) ...really fat brook trout ready to go. I'll bet the state can't wait to get rid of these fish instead of feeding them!

A very late opener this year!

Don't forget that the Div. web page announces stocking every Friday if one is to follow the truck.

Does anyone know the location of trout fishing at Scorton's? We do the schoolie thing off 6A and eslewhere, but unfamiliar with the upper portion beyond that.

Fished Hathaway today. Ice was 5-6 inches. Started of with a quick flag that produced a 19" tiger trout. Got one other trout during the course of the day, 15" TT. Rest of the time it was a scattering of perch.
By mid-day the ice was getting soft. I would occasional go through 1-3 inchs of the soft white ice leaving only 2" of semi black ice underneath. I think I'm done ice fishing on the cape.

On the news today was a story about two guys that went through the ice on Wequaquet yesterday. Not surprised if they were out in the afternoon with the sun we had.
