well, the upper basin of the upper mystic lakes is now almost completely ice free. the rest of the mystic lakes are starting to go, with the sides showing. the lower lake is still locked up.

while checking out the basin, I walked around and spooked about 10 fish that were up in real shallow water- didnt have a rod with me, so couldnt take a shot at them

for those of you desperate for open water fishing, upper mystic appears to tbe the place to be.

the mystic river is also all thawed out.

all the other local ponds are still locked, such as spy pond, horn pond, etc..

I may make it out on the mystic lake this weekend, definately there next weekend for some good old fashioned early season largemouth action. reports to follow.

Mashpee-Wakeby -- still plenty of ice in the area around the ramp. The section you can see from Cotuit rd. is open right to the shore so if you wanted to hike your gear through the conservation area you could shore fish.

Santiut --mostly open there was one bass boat out fishing

Wequaquet -- more water around the edges: looks like it will be gone soon.

Peters Pond -- Cove by ramp had ice in the middle but plenty of open water around the edges . Someone said it was stocked a couple days ago but none of the dozen or so people that I saw caught anything. Did see a salmon swim by.. It's day was whitish and frayed and it look like it was missing a large area of scales behind it's dorsal fin. It did not hit anything that was offered it as it swam by various people. It only spooked a little bit when a spoon was dragged across it's back.

Stopped by Little Pond in Plymouth on Friday, March25. Totally iced in! Looks like at least another week to go.

F&W web page states that Russell-Sawmill in North Plymouth was stocked....but not Peter's. Son and I will wet a line in Plymouth today because we can't stand staying home any longer.
