I second wooly buggers...Throw them on a med-fast sink line...Brown, olive, black early season...You want to use buggy looking ones...Not stiff generic looking ones...

If your bored with them, shiny white streamers..>Actually you can throw white wooly buggers also...

If you see a bunch of fish rising in one area, midges will do the trick...18-20 black midges on the floating lines...

I say this in general for most stillwater fishing...As far as pond specific, it depends. Does long pond have a herring run? Or are there any smelt or alewives in it? Walking the shore will give you an idea of what the bait looks like? Depending on the type of bottom the pond has, may tell you whether to use lighter or darker wooly buggers.. I find olive to work the best on sandy gravel bottoms....

long pond is a very healthy coldwater spring fed pond it has a mixed gravel and sand bottom. it had smelt stock for forage a very long time ago. one of the major baitfishes is the white sucker and its fry and eggs
