Hey guys,
I was just wonering if anyone had any experience with this pond. I know it is listed as catch and release and being stocked with native brookies. Still the few times I tried it a few years back,I never did anything, even though I caught fish in big and little cliff's. Not to mention I was always alone there. Just wondering if the state still maintained it or if has fallen victim to budget cuts.
Thanks for any comments,
Matt

I've never fished it, but know people who have. I've heard of some very big fish being taken from that pond...I'll ask around about it...
There's nothing better than having a Cape pond to yourself...

Yeah, I love brookies, and big ones would be very nice indeed. I did'nt go back there today, as I'm sure the road in would be pretty soft. I just stuck to little/big cliff, and no one was doing much. But at least there not frozen.
Thanks for replying.

i have heard there are labrador? strain brookies in there and also a school of smelt and generally both fish stay down deep. i have managed one colorful, fat 14 or so inch brookie out of there but it was probably 6 or7 years ago. not sure what has changed since. fish was caught deep and slow on a brown bugger i believe.

Higgins was a C&R pond, no more. The pond is stocked with brook, brown, rainbow, and tiger trout in the spring.
I've seen the smelt and a big brook trout (5 - 6 lbs.) pounding them in the spring. I'm sure the ice fishermen have taken some big fish out of the pond but there are still some nice fish left. This is the one pond I use streamers most of the time.

That's the feeling I had gotten. It's too bad, but not surprising. Oh well maybe I'll find a long term resident in there someday. Thanks for the replies.

Then ma/gov site (see links) still show this as a Catch and Release pond, artificials only. Just a heads up!

Where did you see it listed? I just checked the 2005 abstracts and don't see it with the other c&r areas. Just curious.

The info I was looking at was supplied with the pond map for Higgins pond, which is linked through reel-time, my bad though, I should have looked a little more closely, because the date at the bottom is 3/93. Thanks for the reply....I now know how bad I need to get away from this d*&n box and start fishing.
Nickerson (last time I fished there) does have a manned, and knowledgable staff. I am sure they could tell you all sorts of good intel on when the pond(s) were last stocked and with what breeds/regs. If I get out there I will try to redeem myself with the latest on Higgins.
